GIVE GENEROUSLY

-

THE generosity of Gold Coasters was on display again yesterday as hundreds gathered at a Surfers Paradise hotel function room in the spirit of giving.

The breakfast launch event of the Salvation Army’s annual Red Shield Appeal was a politics-free zone as the good work the “Salvos” do on behalf of the needy was on display and acknowledged.

Drug and alcohol addiction support worker Mitchell Stamper spoke openly about his personal battles and how Salvation Army assistance had helped him straighten out his life. New Gold Coast Titans recruit and rugby league Immortal Mal Meninga emphasised the importance of giving back to community.

Chair Tony Hickey noted $10,000 was enough to keep two homeless kids off the streets for a year. All up $400,000 was raised with a desk knock appeal and other collections still to come.

Give generously – the Salvation Army is truly doing, to use a cliche, God’s work.
