Tighe ready to Reload

- NATHAN EXELBY

EVEN though Winx has waltzed off into retirement, part-owner Peter Tighe still yearns for more big race wins and with two Group 1 contenders, he is hopeful Queensland’s winter carnival will deliver his next one.

Tighe races Doomben Cup aspirant Mister Sea Wolf with a number of good friends, including Gold Coaster Noel Greenhalgh, in whose colours the import races. Tighe is hopeful, rather than confident, about his chances in the race on Saturday.

The big card to play this carnival is Reloaded, a Snitzel colt who won the same debut race as The Autumn Sun did last year. Off the back of that win, he has been promoted to the top of J.J. Atkins betting charts and is likely to start next week in Sydney, rather than the BRC Sires.

“He’s jumped every hurdle they have put in front of him,” Tighe said.

“He lived up to his potential at his first start and he’s on the same path as The Autumn Sun. We’re not saying he’s as good as The Autumn Sun ... but we are hopeful he will be cherry ripe for the J.J. Atkins. We are very excited about his prospects.”

Tighe concedes Mister Sea Wolf is “probably not a genuine Group 1 horse” but gets his chance in a Doomben Cup lacking star power.

“He’s drawn well and he ran well in the Hollindale,” Tighe said. “We will send him around optimistically.”
