Britons are top drunks

-

DRINKERS in the UK get drunk more often than those anywhere else in the world, a global drug survey suggests.

English-speaking countries led the way, with the US, Canada and Australia closely following the UK at the top of the global rankings.

Britons reported getting drunk an average of 51.1 times in a 12-month period.

Researchers based in London surveyed 5400 people from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and more than 120,000 globally between October 29 and December 30 last year. AN individual who dumped more than 1500 old tyres across the Gold Coast has been fined a staggering $75,000, with the city council now vowing to come down hard on other culprits.

The person, who the council has refused to name, was fined the eye-watering amount after repeatedly dumping large numbers of tyres over a threemonth period late last year.

Tyres were found discarded across the city from Pimpama to Reedy Creek, and as far west as Clagiraba.

Officers issued nine separate fines, totalling $75,000, following a three-month covert
