Murderer Milat on death’s door

-

NSW serial killer Ivan Milat remains in a secure annex of a Sydney hospital after reportedly being diagnosed with cancer.

The 74-year-old backpacker murderer has been in Prince of Wales Hospital in Randwick since Monday evening after being transferred from Goulburn’s supermax jail.

Milat has been diagnosed with terminal cancer after undergoing tests on lumps in his throat and stomach, the ABC reports.

The Seven Network has described the diagnosis as the “advanced stages of cancer”.

The former road worker was sentenced in 1996 to seven consecutive life sentences for murdering seven backpackers whose bodies were found in makeshift graves in NSW’s Belanglo State Forest in the 1990s.

He also kidnapped British tourist Paul Onions, who escaped from Milat’s vehicle.

NSW Corrective Services Commissioner Peter Severin said prisoner transfers were done in the “most secure and safe way possible”.
