BLUES ON BROADBEACH HITS RECORD HIGHS

- BRIANNA MORRIS-GRANT

THE festival has only just finished but work is already well under way for 2020’s Blues on Broadbeach.

More than 170,000 attended the annual music festival during the weekend, which this year featured more than 40 acts throughout the precinct.

There’s no rest for organisers, however, with Broadbeach Alliance CEO Jan McCormick saying they were already in talks for next year’s big acts.

“We’re currently in contract discussions with performers,” she said but was unable to share any names at this stage.

“We’re well and truly into our planning stage for next year. Planning for 2020 commenced about six months ago.

“When you’re dealing with international acts of the calibre we’re bringing in, you’ve got to put your hand up fairly early.”

Numbers are still being counted as the festival ends its 18th year but they’re predicted to be “easily” 180,000, which would make it another record-breaking year.

“Every decision we make is based on, ‘Would I get on a plane if I was in Sydney and Melbourne’?” she said.

“It’s about driving visitation. It’s about driving room nights for the precinct and that then flows on to everything. I never thought it would get as big as this.”
