PERSONALITIES FROM THE PAST

-

THE election is finally over. The Gold Coast has always produced wonderfully colourful characters so we thought we would take a trip down memory lane to recall our three favourites.

Christian Jocumsen:

His sole platform was to have a designated nude beach. What made him a stand out (sorry) was his press conferences with Christian and his supporters all naked.

A perennial candidate for everything, Will changed his name to Aabraham-Steer to ensure he was top of the ballot paper which was then listed alphabetically. Famously tried to cut the ribbon at the opening of the west Chevron Island Bridge with a sword while mounted on a moped a la Captain de Groot and the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

The Mayor with Flair (who never got there), Shep was a spruiker/salesman of the highest order. He had a million ideas but it was his endless pursuit of the Mayoralty that endeared him to us all. Those were the days.
