Dental empire expands
THE Gold Coast dental treatment market has a new entrant in the fiercely-competitive sector.
Malo Clinic, which was founded in 1995 by Paulo Malo in Portugal, has opened a branch at Robina.
Dr Sham Jamal, who heads up the operation, said it was the first clinic on the Gold Coast to have an operating theatre, enabling patients to sleep through long procedures.
Malo has developed the All-On-4 surgical technique, which it calls an alternative to removable dentures and traditional dental implant techniques.
The treatment name derives from replacing teeth using four support implants, with a set of prosthetic teeth fixed to these implants.
Malo calls this a “minimally invasive treatment”, resulting in lower costs and less time in the dental chair.
“The angular placement of the four implants into the jaw enable them to be set more securely in place and can in some cases negate the need for bone grafting associated with dental implants,” the company claims.
Dr Jamal said he was driven to open the clinic by a desire to “make a difference”.
“The training to become certified is extremely intensive, particularly due to the requirements to successfully perform the All-On-4 surgical technique,” he said.
“This technique in particular drove me to open the clinic here as it is truly lifechanging – it literally transforms people who are impacted by either significant mouth trauma.”
Dr Jamal said he chose Robina for the clinic’s location due to its high number of professionals and schools within a short radius.
“Our approach is defined by our patient first focus and the fact that we can make such a difference in people’s lives is what drives us as a practice and brand,” Dr Jamal said.
“Part of this approach is our decision to offer the AllOn-4 service at a similar cost to overseas – which means that they don’t have to travel for the procedure.”
Dr Jamal spent 14 years at Australia Fair Dental Care before deciding to open the Malo Clinic last year.
