COLT FLIES INTO KINGSFORD ASSAULT

- NATHAN EXELBY

TRAINER of the moment Ciaron Maher believes Dubious is the right type of colt to be thrown into the deep end in Saturday’s Group 1 Kingsford Smith Cup.

Maher is going against convention and taking on older horses in the WFA race (1300m), rather than staying with the two-year-old path in the BRC Sires (1400m).

Being a son of top stallion Not A Single Doubt, Dubious is a valuable commodity and would be even more so if he could win a Group 1 race.

“He could go to the Sires and that’s another Group 2,” Maher told Radio TAB’s Past The Post yesterday

“Even if he won, it probably doesn’t add much more to his CV. But the Group 1, you’re a bit later in the year for a twoyear-old, you’re not far off three.

“If he can peel off a Group 1, it’s huge for a colt. History would tell you it’s always tough to do it, but he’s just such a well-rounded horse and quite durable.”
