Big guns are still rolling in clay

WOMEN’S top seeds Sara Tomic and Olivia Gadecki will today prepare for their quarter-finals at the Queensland Clay Court Championsh­ips.

After a couple of days at KDV Sports hampered by rain, much of the draw was completed yesterday with second round matches in the men’s and women’s draws. Tomic accounted for Elodie Foster 6-3, 6-3 and Gadecki defeated Under-14 Brisbane Age winner Maddison Ricardo 6-0, 6-2.

In the men’s draw top seeded Adam Hecimovic progressed through to the quarters, defeating gallant qualifier Stephen Gort 6-2, 6-1 in the second round. Second seeded men’s player Will Maher progressed over Baez Nielsen 7-6, 6-4.

Today will see quarter and semi-final matches being played, with twilight finals tomorrow. The event is open to the public.
