Women put it all together

- CONNOR O’BRIEN

BURLEIGH have rebounded from back-to-back losses to produce their best performance of the year, according to captain Tallisha Harden.

The Bears chalked up their fourth win of the SEQ women’s rugby league division one season by accounting for Brothers Ipswich 26-12 on the road.

“I’m just so proud of the girls – we needed it, that’s for sure,” Harden said.

“We have been guilty in the last three or four weeks of not getting to our kick and not completing sets and things like that whereas (on Saturday night) there was a really conscious effort to complete sets.

“And I think just the vibe and positivity across the board was a lot better, if girls made mistakes we would pick them up or if they did something really well we would pat them on the back.”

The match marked Harden’s second back from pre-season ankle surgery. After playing 20 minutes last week, the 26-year-old forward played the full game.

“I broke it really badly in 2015 and I’ve just been struggling the last couple of years with it. I just needed another surgery to clean it all out and start again but I think I’m on the other side of it now, it feels way better,” she said.

Having now played all six of their rivals, Harden identified 2018 runners-up Wests as the team to beat.
