MODERN KNIGHTS GATHER TO SHOW WARRIOR SKILLS

-

HIT series Game of Thrones might have wound up yesterday but the fighting will go on and on if these wannabe medieval warriors have their way.

The battlefield is nothing like the bloodstained streets of King’s Landing but in a sandy arena in the Ukraine.

French, British, German, Chinese, Australian and about 30 other teams from all over the world came to Ukraine to demonstrate their skills in fullcontact battles with replica medieval weapons (some metal and some wooden).

They wore armour and were decked out in team colours. A park in the village of Kopachiv is the setting for these 21st century warriors. and the world championship in medieval combat.

The festival organised by the International Medieval Combat Federation saw pitched battles between international teams taking place over four days in a village about 100km from Kiev.

This was the first time Ukraine has hosted the championship, which was last year held in Scotland.
