GRIZZLY’S HOCKEY HOPEFULS

-

TWO young boys from a local ice hockey club are soon to find out if they have been selected to play for the Queensland team.

Hunter Boland, 11, and Kaleb Benney, 12, from Gold Coast Grizzlys Ice Hockey Club in Bundall, are among the top 22 players in the Queensland under-13 squad.

Over the next couple of weeks, they will be training in Brisbane in hopes to be selected for the 12-person Queensland team.

Both boys were featured in Inspire three weeks ago, sharing their story about how they have both been competing overseas and bringing home gold.

Hunter’s first trip was in 2017 to Hong Kong, before travelling to Malaysia, Singapore and New Zealand.

He returned from Hong Kong with the Most Valuable Player Award for his role with the International North Stars Peewee team.

Kaleb was selected for involvement in the Ice Skating Australia National Development Camp at the beginning of the year and then went on to represent the Queensland Cyclones in Canada.

But their success did not come down to luck, as both Hunter and Caleb admitted they train for hours almost every day — squeezing in sessions around school. Both boys will find out if they were selected for the state team on June 10.
