GC’S MAJOR LEAGUE
THE Gold Coast again showed its ability and class to host major events when 170,000 people turned up to watch more than 40 acts at Blues on Broadbeach.
It followed headline events already this year such as the Magic Millions, Eurovision – Australia Decides, Australian Surf Life Saving Championships, Bleach, Supanova and the SportAccord conference.
Each generated millions of dollars for the economy to a range of business sectors.
The major events roadshow rolls on this week, targeting another audience at the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show.
More than 45,000 people and
300 exhibitors are expected at the Southern Hemisphere’s premier marine event, where boat lovers can pick up a tinnie or a multimillion-dollar superyacht.
It is followed in the next six weeks by SeaFire, the Australian Open – the world’s biggest bowls festival – Cooly Rocks On, the Logies and the Gold Coast Marathon.
Every one of them, as diverse as the next, are proving crucial magnets in maintaining the city’s mantle as Australia’s tourism and small business capital.
The good thing is, residents can attend one, go to work for a week, and roll to another.
