Small surf holds up Bali event

-

SMALL and inconsistent conditions forced organisers to call lay days for yesterday and today at the World Surf League event in Bali.

Event organisers will reconvene at 7am local time (9am AEST) tomorrow to reassess the conditions and decide when the event can resume.

Wade Carmichael and Adrian Buchan are the only Australians through to the quarter-finals of the men’s event, while seven-time world champ Stephanie Gilmore, Sally Fitzgibbons, Nikki van Dijk and Bronte Macaulay are all into the last eight of the women’s event at Keramas.

“Unfortunately the swell we had fill in on Sunday and Monday has faded really fast leaving us with small, inconsistent surf,” said WSL competition director, Kieren Perrow.

“Every now and then there is a decent set that comes through with the push of the tide, but there is a long wait for them and there just isn’t enough opportunity for competitors.”
