STEPPING UP ON $2.7M STUNNER

- EMILY HALLORAN

THE last time I was on a boat was about a decade ago when I went out in a tinnie worth a couple of hundred bucks.

It broke down in the Tweed River and I had a panic attack while it took 45 minutes to fix the motor.

So I took a big step up – literally – when ushered aboard Gold Coast boat-building giant Riviera’s new yacht, the 6000, on Tuesday.

We docked from the marina at Runaway Bay but the stunning platinum edition luxury vessel worth $2.7 million will be one of more than 500 boats on display from today at the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show.

Riviera’s owner Rodney Longhurst said the 6000, along with other new Riviera models, were “next level”.

The 6000 boasts three bedrooms, a walk-in wardrobe, three toilets with a view, a kitchen, dining area, barbecue and multiple fridges.

Riviera international sales director Chris McCafferty said half of the 100 yachts the Coomera company built annually were sold to overseas buyers.

“The US market appreciates high-quality boats,” he said.

“We’re known as the true-blue water boat. It’s the high-end quality you can cruise on but if the weather is bad, you know the boat is going to stay in one piece.”
