Carer stabs her charge
A GOLD Coast woman stabbed her sister-in-law in the chest three times and once in the arm after they began to argue while drinking in their Burleigh Waters home, a court has heard.
Jennifer Louise MacKenzie, 60, yesterday pleaded guilty in the Southport District Court to wounding and breaching bail.
The court was told MacKenzie and her sister-in-law, 56, were drinking on February 16 last year and began to argue.
MacKenzie acts as carer for the woman, who had told her: “Go to bed, you old hag.”
When MacKenzie told her not to talk to her that way, the woman advanced on her and they began to yell at each other. MacKenzie was holding a knife and stabbed her sisterin-law in the chest and armpit.
Judge Catherine Muir sentenced MacKenzie to 10 months’ prison with immediate release on parole.
