A FLIPPING GOOD TIME AT AEROBICS
ABOUT 900 aspiring youngsters had the time of their lives at the FISAF Australia Gold Coast Super Series at Carrara Indoor Stadium at the weekend.
In a win for parents eager to get their kids off technology and active, the Saturday and Sunday event saw a host of sport aerobics clubs as well as primary and secondary school students. Sunday’s action went up a notch as athletes from sport aerobics clubs who compete at a more elite level of the competition took centre stage. Sport aerobics is a fun fitness routine that combines elements of aerobics, dance and fitness. It is a high-intensity sport with different sections and categories that require different skills and cater for a variety of fitness levels. Sport aerobics is taught around Australia in dedicated sport aerobics clubs, as well as in schools. Children from as young as four years old right through to adults can participate. FISAF stands for the Federation of International Sport Aerobics and Fitness.
A competition program is run around Australia, which culminates in the National Championships which is held in Brisbane each August. Athletes can compete as part of their school, or as a professional athlete from a sport aerobics club.
Leading athletes who are competing could be selected for the Australian team and travel to the World Championships in Europe later this year.
