Trad to lead ‘ridiculous’

-

DEPUTY Premier Jackie Trad has chided questions she could challenge for Queensland’s top job as “a little bit ridiculous”.

Amid party turmoil over state Labor’s handling of Adani, Ms Trad publicly ruled out any tilt but rumblings continue over Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk’s political future as well as her own.

“That’s just a little bit ridiculous, can I say, and the answer to that is an emphatic no,” she told Brisbane radio after vowing to recontest South Brisbane next year – a seat the Adani sceptic is on track to lose to the Greens.

Ms Palaszczuk too had no time for questions on the topic, cutting down suggestions she was finally acting on Adani to save her own job as “rubbish”.

Nervous Labor MPs are wondering whether veteran ministers Cameron Dick or Kate Jones might be a less “ridiculous” proposition to save them from political misfortune next year.

But any move would be very unlikely ahead of the Budget – less than three weeks away.
