Burleigh factories go up in flames

-

FIREFIGHTERS were working late last night to put out a fire that engulfed at least two factories in Burleigh Heads.

It is believed two other neighbouring factories had been damaged by smoke.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said the blaze was under control, however firefighters were still putting out “hotspots” at 10pm.

A fire investigator is expected to visit the site first thing this morning.

Earlier, police closed off a road in an industrial estate after reports around 7.40pm of a large industrial fire.

Five fire trucks battled the large blaze on Taree St in a warehouse which is understood to house multiple businesses.

It is unknown how the fire started and early reports said there had been no injuries.

Paramedics were also on scene to support fire crews.

Nearby residents reported the smell of chemicals in the air.
