Suns’ former Cat has something to prove to Geelong

- RYAN REYNOLDS

JORDAN Murdoch admits he might find it a bit weird running to the Gold Coast huddle rather than the Geelong one when he faces his former team for the first time tomorrow night.

The dashing Gold Coast defender played 108 games for the Cats before being told the club would not renew his contract at the end of 2018.

The 27-year-old was then given a career lifeline by Gold Coast coach Stuart Dew in the off-season and Murdoch headed north confident he could have an impact on the Suns’ list.

Murdoch admits he has a point to prove tomorrow night.

Not just to the club that deemed him surplus to requirements, but also to show the Suns can match it with a team rated by bookies as the premiership favourite.

“I can imagine it’s going to be weird,” Murdoch said of facing the Cats.

“I talked to Jack Hombsch about it a little bit, he had the same thing happen (last week). He said it was weird, the quarter time siren, coming to the Gold Coast huddle and not the Port Adelaide one.

“It’s something I am relishing, I’ve pencilled it in from the start of the year.

“There’s a little bit of that (proving Geelong wrong), but also that they are the best team and there is no better challenge for us as a team.

“Geelong has come out and played some really good footy and more than deserve their position on the ladder.

“I have watched a couple of games and they’ve been very impressive.”

Murdoch said he had been rejuvenated by his role in defence at Gold Coast.

He loves the extra responsibility of being an experienced player in the squad and believes it is bringing out his best footy.

The Suns have made one change for the game, with Chris Burgess replacing injured defender Sam Collins.
