Chamber cheers tax relief

- ANDREW POTTS

THE Gold Coast’s peak business body has welcomed the State Government’s changes to payroll tax, saying it will help create “thousands” of new jobs across Queensland.

An $885 million tax relief package kicks in next month and will see the exemption threshold for payroll tax inGOLD creased for all businesses from $1.1 million to $1.3 million.

“This will mean 1500 additional businesses will no longer pay any payroll tax,” Treasurer Jackie Trad said.

Gold Coast Central Chamber of Commerce president Martin Hall said it was a “tremendous success” which would affect a significant number of local small and medium businesses. “We have been lobbying hard for this and it will generate thousands of jobs across the state,” he said.

“It makes it easier and less expensive for businesses to employ people.

“This will allow operators to spread their wings a little and expand into new markets and creates an enormous opportunity for job creation.”
