HUGE COLES DEAL FOR HEALTH FOODS MAKER

- ALISTER THOMSON

GOLD Coast health foods company Mavella Superfoods has received a major boost, with Coles supermarkets across the country stocking its products.

Mavella Superfoods produces fruit and vegetable powders for children and was launched in 2016 by Jaime Turner and Cheryl Stewart.

The pair say long-term they expect the deal, which took one to two months to finalise and will see their products in 192 Coles supermarkets, will be as lucrative as last year’s contract with a Chinese distributor to sell on giant eCommerce retail platform JD.com.

“Coles was attracted to Mavella because it had nothing that was like our products,” Ms Turner said.

“Everything else is full of sugar.”

She said the way they presented the product, which will

be sold in the vitamin section next to pregnancy products, was different from in the past where the powders have sold in large packets.

“We presented it in a 10g single sachet format,” she said.

“Everything was expensive in the vitamin section so we thought this could be a good add on. If we sell them individually it is not high cost item.”

She said having the product in the vitamin section, rather than the healthfoods aisle, was ideal.

“We expect people shopping for pregnancy vitamins will pick these up because they will looking for things for their kids.”

The sachets, which will retail for $2 each, come in three flavours: Veggie Boost, Brain Boost and Immune Boost.

“We’re getting amazing feedback already. People are asking what stores they will be in,” she said.

The powders can be used in smoothies, cooking and baking.

The Veggie Boost powder contains the nutrition of raw vegetables including sweet potato, beetroot, spinach, broccoli, kale, carrot and pumpkin while the Immune Boost has nine berries known to be high in antioxidants.

Ms Turner said they are now working on new products, including a gut and fibre powder with vanilla flavouring.
