Labor jumps on LNP leadership speculation
LABOR has revived its tale about Broadwater MP David Crisafulli surfacing like a bull shark as it drums up speculation around Opposition leader Deb Frecklington.
Sky News presenter Alan Jones has given the Palaszczuk Government ammunition to target Ms Frecklington after he described the State LNP as “beyond hopeless”.
The Sydney-based shock jock on the night after Labor’s State Budget went a step further, telling Sky viewers: “Because this is the news – the move to replace Frecklington is on.”
LNP sources said the speculation was “laughable”, that there has never been a count and if did happen no-one would get beyond single digits in a bid to topple Ms Frecklington.
As the LNP in Question Time at State Parliament yesterday put pressure on Labor about its Budget, several Ministers quickly jumped on the comments by Jones to embarrass the Opposition.
Tourism Industry Development Minister Kate Jones, when asked about growing major events tourism and the budget allocation, decided to make an “announcement”.
“I am very pleased to announce today that what was touted to be held at Christmas during the recess has been brought forward,” Ms Jones told the Parliament.
“I can announce to all members – it is on – we’ve had the battle of Brisbane, we’ve had the river city rumble but in a world exclusive I can confirm that tickets go on sale today for Bull Shark from the Broadwater (Mr Crisafulli) against the no show Nanango (Ms Frecklington).”
