FUN BINGO NIGHT IS SERIOUS FOR MUM
TONIGHT, Nicole Azzopardi just wants to enjoy a game of drag queen bingo, like any other “normal girl”.
After being diagnosed with secondary lung cancer in May – 18 months after fighting aggressive bone cancer in her knee – Ms Azzopardi now has a fighting chance of getting the treatment she so desperately needs.
And it’s all thanks to community support like tonight’s event at Miami Marketta.
“It will be nice to be a normal girl. I’ll see how I go staying up to 11.30pm,” she laughed.
The mother-of-one said friends from Melbourne and the Gold Coast would be coming out to join the fun, so she was looking forward to catching up with them.
The glamorous Mz Violet Velvet and ShuShu Funtanna would be riling up the crowds with their dazzling take on the traditional game of bingo.
“We bring a lot of glitz and glamour, comedy and shock horror – you never know what’s coming around the corner,” Mz Velvet said.
“Everyone can come and have a good time and raise some money for a lovely woman who desperately needs it.”

Drag queen bingo is held bimonthly on the Gold Coast and has raised $35,000 for various causes.
Ms Azzopardi said she had nearly reached her $150,000 goal, which would see her fly to China for specialised treatment, as her cells are now immune to chemotherapy.
She has paid a deposit needed to get a specific treatment for the cancer. Ms Azzopardi said once she had enough money to cover her flights and insurance, she would leave for the five weeks of treatment.
She hoped this would be next month, with any extra money raised to be used in her rehabilitation after the treatment.
