Swift, caring response to callous daylight mugging

-

GETTING mugged means also getting asaulted for the things you are carrying on your person. Mugging is also a very specific form of robbery.

The main reason for my letter is firstly to warn people to be very vigilant when it comes to your personal property when being out and about in Southport, where it happened to me, and secondly and most importantly, I want to acknowledge the great work done by our police officers and paramedics.

I was the victim of a very extreme attack/mugging in broad daylight at 10.40am on Tuesday, September 3, only five metres from my front door of a wellknown residence in Southport.

The culprit was dressed in black, with a black hoodie and he jumped me from behind, grabbed my satchel and took off with my wallet with cash and credit cards in it, my mobile phone and my reading glasses.

Some kind people came to my aid, called the police and paramedics. The culprit was caught and in the watchhouse in Southport within 24 hours of this traumatic event.

What absolute professionalism and expertise was shown by the police officers who attended as well as the plain clothes police officer later assigned to the case.

CCTV played an important role in identifying the assailant.

I want to pay tribute to the paramedic who attended me and insisted on staying with me until a call to my cardiologist verified all was OK with my pacemaker.

Our police and paramedics do a marvellous job and deserve our full support for the work they do in our community. A personal thank you. RUSSELL BRODIE, SOUTHPORT
