TAILOR MADE FOR FUN TIMES

-

HI everyone, hope you’ve all had a great week. The strong winds have been making fishing pretty hard going on the Gold and Tweed Coasts lately.

Good news as we head into the weekend with some great weather conditions on the way.

Tailor have been dominating the catches around the Jumpinpin Bar entrance this week with reports of monster greenbacks being caught throwing surface lures into the bust-ups. Catching tailor on surface lures is great fun, the expectation of the bite and then seeing them smash the lure on the surface is an awesome sight.

The incoming tide is usually the most productive time to fish and peak towards the top of the tide. Keep an eye on the sky for bird activity as they will see down through the water and can spot schools of bait fish and predators. If you enjoy bait fishing try drifting WA pilchards rigged on gang hooks.

The swell looks like it’s easing making beach fishing a great option from the Tweed north towards The Spit and on South Stradbroke Island, sessions timed with the rising tide should produce quality tailor and jewfish from the gutters.

As the water temperature starts to warm up we have noticed a bit more bull shark activity up the Coomera River. Live mullet have worked well along with their favourite freshwater eel rigged on wire trace.

I have noticed a few local anglers starting to target mangrove jack in the Coomera River, with the air temp being warmer than normal this time of year it’s worth a look. Try targeting the pontoons around Sanctuary Cove, Hope Island up river towards Gold Coast City Marina. Also try the highway bridge and pontoons around River Links. Other spots to try are bridges and jetties in the Tweed River, Currumbin and Tallebudgera Creek, Logan River and Nerang River.

Smithy from Brad Smith Fishing Charters reports the Tweed River has been fishing pretty much the same as it has for the past month. The good old flatties have still dominated the catch rate and are taking lures in both the deep holes and trolling the flats and channel edges.

The good news is that we managed to pick up quite a few jewies that were also lurking in the holes. Some were only small but there were a couple of good fish over the 70cm mark. Fishing the holes around the tide changes with a combination of Ecogear ZX40 and Strike Pro cyber vibes did the job on these fun fish.

Clint from the Gold Coast reports the Nerang River has been a good spot to find some shelter from the wind managing some flathead, queenfish and bream.

The Broadwater is the place to be with so much variety on offer out there. Bigger tides mean we have to accurately time where we fish, within an hour of the tide changes provides the best bite period. Setting the correct drift speed and angle is crucial to catching 30plus fish in a session.

We caught some really nice flounder, squid, whiting, flathead, bream, queenfish. Night time is the go if you’re chasing bigger sand whiting and mangrove jacks as the water temperatures begin to rise.

Hope you all have a good weekend and get out for a fish, if you have any great catches or photos you would like to share, please email us and let us know how you went.
