Rapid ascent for Nic

- TOM BOSWELL @TomBoswellGCB

NICOLAS Harrison has gone from playing Division 2 for Coomera 12 months ago to preparing to feature in a QAFL grand final for Surfers Paradise this weekend.

It’s been a sharp rise for Harrison, 23, who has become a key cog in the Demons’ rise to the grand final, to be played against Palm Beach Currumbin at Metricon Stadium tomorrow.

“It’s pretty nice to make the grand final, especially in my first year at the club,” Harrison said.

“I can’t really complain and it’s nice to do it with a bunch of guys who have come through the junior ranks together.

“(Teammate) Cassidy Haberfield and I have played against each other since we were about 10 so it’s been nice to share in it with guys like him.”

Harrison injured his hamstring twice and hurt his hip flexor early in the year but has managed to get through the majority of the season without a hitch.

The defender followed former Coomera coach Jason Chantler across to the Demons this year and always believed he could make the transition up to the state league.

“I wasn’t overly enjoying the level of Coomera. It wasn’t low but I wanted a bit more of a challenge,” Harrison said.

“I played under (Chantler) since under-16s so I followed him there.

“I was pretty happy to go there. I knew from keeping up with scores and a few people I knew already there that they were on the up.

“They seemed like a good bunch of guys so I thought it would be a good opportunity. It has turned out pretty good.”
