MOORE THAN JUST A RIDESHARE
STRAP in for a musical journey if you hop in a rideshare with Gold Coast driver Dan Moore.
The Ola driver from Tugun graces passengers with personalised freestyle poetry as he ferries them around the Gold Coast.
“I don’t do it all the time, but if I feel people are receptive to it I’ll just bust out a bit of freestyle,” he said.
“People grab their phones to film it.”
Sometimes the passengers will even join in for an impromptu collaboration.
“I’ve had a musician in my car who jumped in and starting freestyling and we were using music on the radio as a beat. Creatively that was the best experience I’ve ever had.”
But for fans of a quiet journey, Mr Moore has promised he won’t talk your ear off.
He abides by a “two question limit” to test the waters for conversation and said “about half” of passengers were keen to chat.
“I’ll ask where they’re off to and how their day has been and if they give short answers I take that as a hint to be quiet,” he said.
Mr Moore, who has self-published three books, drives for the rideshare company “between catching good waves” and writing stories, and said the job gave him plenty of inspiration for his creativity.
Previous passengers may find themselves immortalised as characters in his writing, typed on an iPad in his car in between jobs.
There are even the beginnings of a new book.
“You see a lot of life in the car. It’s a bit of a confessional box because it’s quite an intimate setting in the car.
“I’ve done drives across the road, I’ve done one all the way from Broadbeach to Caboolture with a hungover passenger, there’s some where there’s no destination, they just want to drive.”
I DON’T DO IT ALL THE TIME, BUT IF I FEEL PEOPLE ARE RECEPTIVE TO IT I’LL JUST BUST OUT A BIT OF FREESTYLE DAN MOORE
