SOME of the Gold Coast’s finest surf lifesavers will represent their state and showcase their surf life saving skills in the annual interstate competition.

A number of emerging Gold Coast talents have been named in the 2020 Queensland Youth Pathway Cup set to battle it out against other states in ironman and ironwoman racing, board races, ski races, taplin relays, rescue events, beach flags and beach sprints.

In the under-14s, Allana Glowaski (Tallebudgera), Britney Ingr and Herb Winter (both Currumbin), Ryley Harland (Northcliffe) and Ethan Callaghan (North Burleigh) have all been named to take on the rest of Australia.

In the under-15s age division, sisters Claudia and Alyssa Bailey (Northclife), Tahli Devine (Kurrawa), Cobey Frigo (Currumbin) and Euan Lynch (Northcliffe) will fly the flag for the Gold Coast.

Gold Coast talents hold exactly half of the 20 spots available in the Youth Pathway Cup side, which also features a number of Sunshine Coast talents.

The team gives the opportunity for young athletes to represent their state and become involved in the state’s high-performance program.

The side will be coached by Mermaid Beach head coach Mike Janes, while Sam Dick of Currumbin will act as an assistant coach and Melissa Cracroft-Wilson of Kurrawa has been named as beach coach.

The team was chosen after the conclusion of the 2019 interbranch championships, which were won by the Sunshine Coast on 1292 points, followed by the South Coast on 1140 and Point Danger on 1061.
