OFF THE RECORD

-

THE Power 100 list published annually by this newspaper is for most of us a bit of fun and a chance to peruse who’s who in our local zoo. However there are some who walk among us who take their inclusion AND ranking very seriously indeed. Much like a recording executive perusing the hit parade, they take a fall in the rankings as a slap in the face and are not backward about airing their displeasure at what they see as a slight on their importance. They at least made the list so spare a thought for those who waged a campaign to make the list. Phone calls were made either personally or via friends but sadly in a few cases the lobbying was in vain because they failed to even get a mention. Oh well, there’s always next year.

NEVER ask a question unless you are sure of the answer. One media dame now knows that after she got all dressed up for a big Christmas party. Feeling rather pleased with how she looked – low in the front and high on the legs – she twirled around in front of her mother and asked what she thought of the outfit. Not impressed would be a kind way or to be exact “looking like a prostitute”. A bit shocked our girl shot back, “Well I hope I look like an expensive one.” Let’s just say that mummy dearest was not amused.

A NEW boss usually means a new regime. In a big business you can understand a need for change but this hardworking, volunteer charity gal has been relieved of her duties because the new boss wants his “special friend” to take over. From the outside it may look like the job is fun and then some but behind the scenes there is a lot of hard work involved to make it look easy peasy. The problem will come next year when it is time to start planning for a particular big fundraising event. Those years of meticulous organising will count for nought as the “special friend” discovers it is not all champagne lunches and good times and she will be very much on her own.

NO fuss and no announcement but one high-profile couple has very quietly decided that there time together is at an end. The cause is a closely guarded secret but the reason appears to be that the wife found out about a longstanding affair carried out by the lord of the manor while he was away on his frequent interstate business trips. Two into one just doesn’t go.
