UNREAL GLIMPSE OF GLITTER STRIP LIVING

-

A PLAY about the Gold Coast’s most elite women is a 60minute musical battle royal of beach-glamour realness.

The Unreal Real Housewives of the Gold Coast is an original cabaret mixed with the best and worst parts of the Gold Coast culture to create an unforgettable experience that is local, pop cultural and “absolutely hysterical”.

The scene is at the Palazzo Versace: the silver has been polished, the mimosas have been prepped and the real housewives of the Gold Coast are pulling up in their Porsches. Every year, six of the Gold Coast’s sassiest, nastiest and flashiest homemakers and wreckers convene to shape the future of this big-little beach town they all call home.

In between conversations about husbands and lovers, lip fillers and landfill, the real housewives of the Gold Coast rig elections, orchestrate kinghits and ban dogs from their favourite beaches while all vying to be chairwoman of the club.

The show, written by local playwright Lewis Treston, from Ghost Hunter fame, and produced by theatre stalwart Matt Ward, is a blend of two of the most famous reality shows, Unreal – a take on The Bachelor franchise – and The Real Housewives, an original Bravo franchise spanning locations across the globe.

Mr Ward said the characters were created from people within the Gold Coast social circle elite and audiences would see some typical glitter strip institutions, shops and landmarks. “There are some well-known Gold Coasters acting in it like Charne Louise (from Draculas and Big Brother)

and Emily Monsma (from Wicked!) which was an important thing for the director to have a local cast,” he said.

“My director said he had the idea for the show and I loved the concept and the idea and it fitted perfectly in to the HOTA seasons of Home.

“It was about showcasing the GC in a different light, I loved the concept, and these sorts of reality shows are massive and it is so fitting we have our own version.”

Featuring hit songs like Mercedes Benz by Janis Joplin, and Material Girl by Madonna, the show is likely to tour the country, adapting to each town it visits. The Unreal Real Housewives of the Gold Coast at HOTA on December 12 on the Outdoor Stage from 7pm. Tickets are $39.95.
