Thirst for new pubs

Fresh venues to open

- EMILY HALLORAN

GOLD Coasters will be spoiled for drinking and dining options with five venues opening their doors or relaunching in coming weeks.

New Nobby Beach small bar Nightcap, new nightclub Asylum – replacing Shooters in Surfers Paradise – and The Miami tavern having had a megabucks revamp all open to the public tomorrow night.

Robina Town Centre is also welcoming two news bar and grill venues, with TGI Fridays launching this coming Monday and Americanised The Sporting Globe on Friday, December 13.

It will be the first Queensland TGI Fridays, which has 1000 sites across 60 countries.

Beers will be served by the bucket at The Sporting Globe on The Promenade, seating 330 patrons.

It is owned by Gold Coast brothers Mark and Brad Vigus who have two Gold

Coast group training centres F45s.

Mark said the pair noticed a “gap in the market on the Coast for an inclusive, familyfriendly sporting venue that would appeal to a broad demographic of customers, and become the go-to meeting place to watch, listen, eat, drink and be entertained”.

“As the central point of the city, and being just steps from one of the Coast’s premier sporting venues at Cbus Super Stadium, home of the Gold Coast Titans, Robina presented as the perfect fit for The Sporting Globe’s second Queensland location,” he said.

It will boast 50 highdefinition screens – including two 5sq m screens and a ninescreen video wall – showing AFL, NRL, NBA and NFL.

The Sporting Globe was founded in 2010 by Signature Hospitality Group and has since launched 13 venues across Australia.

The Miami closed for the fitness has past been five months for its multi-milliondollar makeover by ALH which has also recently overhauled the Beer Garden in Surfers Paradise.

The venue has occupied the same block of land for almost a century, with EH Berry opening the original Hotel Miami in 1925. After its rebirth as The Miami Tavern in 1966, leading Australian hospitality group ALH bought it in 1993.

Scott Imlach, behind Burleigh back-alley bar Nightjar, Hideaway and Bine, said several nights of soft openings have preceded the official launch of Nightcap to the public tomorrow.

The Asylum nightclub down party strip Orchid Avenue is the latest venture of the Hallmark Group which launched Retros nightclub and Finn McCool’s Irish bar in the city.
