Floros ton sinks the Dolphins
THE return of Brisbane Heat batsman Max Bryant was not enough to inspire the Gold Coast Dolphins to a one-day victory over Wynnum Manly.
The visiting Sea Eagles rode the hot hand of former Brisbane Heat all-rounder Jason Floros to a 111-run victory, with the red-headed star hitting 104 runs from 85 balls on Saturday.
The game was originally scheduled as a two-day match but was reduced to a one-dayer due to rain the previous week.
Skipper Grayson Jones supported ably with 66 runs while opener Mark Gleeson was similarly effective, posting 51.
The Dolphins bowlers had few answers for the classy batting of their visitors, who reached the end of their allotted overs at 4-267.
Bryant opened the batting but fell in the second over for a duck.
No.3 Hugo Bordon joined him in the pavilion shortly after, caught off his first ball.
No Dolphin was able to establish himself throughout the innings and Josh Cooper topscored from No.8 with 26 runs from 26 balls.
The Dolphins were bowled out in the 39th over for 156 runs.
“It wasn’t a great day,” Dolphins captain Matt Kuhnemann said.
“Jason had a really good day with the bat and showed us how to do it.
“They probably made 50 runs more than what we thought was par and we were behind from the get go.
“It was a one-dayer but with a red ball. We knew there was going to be a low scoring – we thought 180 would be quite a good score because the Dukes (ball) would swing more than the white ball.
“We started off well and then struggled towards the end.”
Kuhnemann said he was confident the side would bounce back when they travel to Ken Mackay Oval to play Toombul when their two-day match begins this Saturday.
