MY MERCURY’S RISING, DON’T STOP ME NOW

-

AUSSIE rules footballer Josh Corbett says he knows all of Queen’s hits and cannot wait for the planets to align between the late Freddie Mercury’s band and his Gold Coast Suns. Corbett and 10 of his teammates will be at the blockbuster concert at Metricon Stadium, Carrara, on February 29 to help belt out classics such as Bohemian Rhapsody, Don’t Stop Me Now, Somebody to Love and Another One Bites the Dust. The Suns, in conjunction with the Bulletin, have announced the release of 300 premium tickets in its Chairman’s Club, as Metricon Stadium prepares to play host to 39,000 Queen fans.

The premium packages include four hours of food and drink and level 2 concert seating in the Chairman’s Club for $499 per person.

“I just hope the music will be so loud no one will hear me,” Corbett joked.

The last concert to play at the Gold Coast AFL home ground was the Foo Fighters in 2011.

Metricon Stadium general manager Tim Carey said the corporate spaces would offer a unique vantage point to see the concert. “Unique element to the show is the corporate spaces,” he said.

“If people do not want to sit on the field they can sit in airconditioning and have their own bars, dining and bathrooms.”

Gold Coast Suns chairman Tony Cochrane said Queen would play in front of a bigger crowd than the one that attended the huge Commonwealth Game opening ceremony in 2018.

“An event like this is as rare as rocking horse poo,” he said.

“We have just released another 2000 tickets but we are expecting a sellout crowd.”
