IT certainly would be sensible to allow newly or nearly qualified doctors and nurses to start work in aged care nursing homes immediately and for the next 6 months. Especially during the present state of affairs associated with coronavirus. Brian O.

I am generally not a fan of Andrew Bolt. I see extreme right views as being just as bad as extreme left views … and this obsession with Pell, what is that all about? But his column (GCB, 12/03) was brilliant and should be read out in every classroom in Australia, read out because most students can’t read. Well done Mr Bolt, keep it up and I may become a fan. Mr MF

If you’re a casual worker and you lose hours from your weekly shifts because of the slowdown from the hyped-up coronavirus it’s lucky you put some savings away just in case. What’s that, you spend all your paychecks every week having a fun time. Don’t worry our pathetic government will siphon off from the rest of us that save for a rainy day. The Mad Rooster

Being an old retired builder myself I agree with Dave (GCB, 12/3) that water is the most accurate way of finding the correct level. That shoots Jim Taylor’s daily theory down in flames. The equipment at Fort Dennison in Sydney Harbour that measures the ocean’s rise and fall beats any other equipment. How could anyone with only an ounce of intelligence deny that water is the most superior method of finding a 100% true level, far more accurate than any satellite. Jim, you need to stop being a loungechair expert and criticising other regular writers whose interesting comments far outweigh yours. Dennis Halliday, a builder for 49 years.

Ban all inbound visitors to our country for at least one month … you government fools.

Could it be this virus may be a wake-up call to take stock to where we stand B4 Father God, the Bible clearly points out that we ignore his Divine Direction and expect drought, calamities, locusts and pestilence in due course. B Mc

The battle of the weak toxic grubs – politicians v rugby league players. Who degraded our nation the most this week?

Tram tracks Broadbeach to Burleigh should be raised above the ground. Marco Polo

Wake up Australia. It’s time to introduce the travel and public gathering ban in an attempt to minimize the impact of coronavirus. Hundreds of people are dying everyday

overseas, do we really want to risk that happening here? Mr Happy Highland Park

The GCCC sub-contractors who drive the wheelie bin recycle trucks are allowed to start first collection at 6am, and finish around 1pm latest every day. I would love to know why these 45 odd truck drivers choose to wake up residents every morning so they can have an early day at home by 1.30pm. Rubbish is rubbish, why can it not wait a couple of hours for pickup? I lose 2 hours sleep because of this ridiculous early starting every week in my cul de sac, that’s 100 hours lost p/a. Would love to hear an intelligent answer why this has to be so early in the mornings. -sleeplessinsouthport

Woohoo, $750 buys me more ciggies, booze plus a big left over for a bet on the nags.

You are so right J.J.Gould. (Letter, GCB 12/3). I served 27 years in the army and would be happy to teach these delinquents a thing or two. Maybe take some of their parents on the journey too! Miss Benowa

Kamm, the alcoholics and chain smokers pay so much excise and GST taxes, they provide free health care for everyone. Johnbrew

With all the young thugs running riot in the streets the words “Clockwork Orange” come to mind. For heaven’s sake, change the laws so these kids get their comeuppance. Grannie Annie, Nerang.

Closely following the coming Council election for new Division 4, it is blatently obvious that Cr Caldwell only cares about his Paradise Point nest egg. Decided, Runaway Bay

Hey Jim Taylor, I will back Ken all the way. My grandfather built a home on the Nerang River 40 years ago including a jetty and he carved a high tide mark into the timber pilon and the high tides still reach the same height today.

So what’s all this BS about climate change and rising seas you preach? Come on Jim spare us the pain, your crusade has become embarrassing to say the least. Kate @ Carrara.

To those that think the world will end if they run out of dunny paper, just use both sides, problem solved. The Archaeologist

Can the media just quit fear headlines re: coronavirus. It’s nowhere near the danger they make it up to be. It is easily treated with natural medicines. The virus has tapered off in China already. So please media. Lay off! I want to be able to buy toilet paper again. LS

Yet another black eye for rugby league. Surely the code needs to draw a line in the sand and kick grubs such as this out for good. KI
