BREWERY DELIVERS IN A CRISIS

- EMILY TOXWARD emily.toxward@news.com.au

BLACK Hops is trying to brighten things up for Gold Coasters the only way it knows how – with beer!

This morning it’s canning a new Black Hops Recon Series release, Sabro IPA and delivering it out to people across the Gold Coast and Brisbane through its new app.

Supply Drop was created in two hours last Saturday by co-founder Dan Norris.

Mr Norris said all craft breweries on the Gold Coast were doing it tough because the bars, restaurants and taprooms they sold to had shut down.

“So many breweries on the Gold Coast are scrambling right now and all they are focused on is doing something to try to keep staff employed,” he said.

“Half of our business is selling to bars, and everyone we know has lost a job so it’s pretty hectic.”

Making the call to close taprooms before required, Mr Norris had been following the coronavirus situation overseas so knew what was coming.

“It’s crazy how fast stuff changes, we had big plans to expand both breweries and build another taproom but now we’re just trying to stay open and keep people employed,” he said.

“We’ve repurposed staff into other areas, the sales reps will be delivering beers and kegs – we’re also paying casuals for a shift even if we aren’t using them.”

Lost Palms in Miami is open for takeaway and click and collect beer through Bopple. It’s also offering delivery to the local suburbs of Palm Beach, Burleigh, Miami and Mermaid (4220, 4221, 4218) Wednesday to Fridays. It’s free for those ordering more than a carton.

Marketing manager Zak Nalder said their planned launch into Brisbane was postponed and offering delivery was the only way it could keep casuals employed.
