Our focus is on prosperity and opportunity for people

-

IT’S sad that someone aspiring to be the state’s Attorney-General has such a blinkered and distorted vision of Queensland’s political history.

David Janetski’s nostalgia for the “Moonlight State”, which inflicted decades of National-Liberal party misrule on Queenslanders, reveals a backward-looking LNP.

By contrast, the Palaszczuk Government has its eye firmly on the future. We’re focused on delivering jobs, prosperity and opportunity for Queenslanders.

We’ll continue to build on our record investments in health, education and infrastructure as Queensland emerges from the COVID-19 crisis.

On the Gold Coast, this means investing in light rail, making the M1 six lanes and building new train stations.

It also means an extra $50 million to help support our tourism businesses and iconic theme and animal parks get through the COVID-19 crisis.

This will give crucial support for the Gold Coast economy and Gold Coast jobs – at a time when it’s needed most.

We’ve also set up a $100 million small business fund which is going to be hugely important for a small business powerhouse like the Gold Coast.

It means eligible small businesses on the Coast will get up to $10,000 paid into their bank accounts – immediate support to get them on their feet.

If the LNP’s recent time in power is any guide then Gold Coast residents, and indeed all Queenslanders, should be very concerned about any future LNP government.

Under Campbell Newman’s government when Jarrod Bleijie was Attorney-General, the LNP wantonly interfered in the state’s judiciary, sacked the Parliamentary Crime and Corruption Committee and ran a dodgy boot camp program that was savaged by the Auditor-General.

Queenslanders can’t afford to go back to an LNP that hasn’t learned the lessons of history.

The Palaszczuk Government is pressing ahead with its positive plans for jobs and the economy, and we’ll continue to work every day for the safety and health of Queenslanders and invest in Queensland’s future. YVETTE D’ATH, JUSTICE MINISTER AND ATTORNEY-GENERAL
