THE STAR HOTEL REOPENS WITH HOT OFFERS

- ROSEMARY BALL

ONE of the city’s biggest employers – The Star Gold Coast – is on the road to recovery, welcoming back more than 400 staff today.

The Star Grand Gold Coast hotel reopens rooms from 9am. The opening just weeks after some of its restaurants restarted means a total of 850 staff will now be back at the Broadbeach Island site. Despite 1650 staff still being at home, the hotel operation is busy with a new “RE-DO” campaign.

Star Gold Coast chief operations officer Jess Mellor said the hotel was offering seven hotel packages, including romantic escapes, including personal training sessions and whisky tastings, to help Gold Coasters celebrate anniversaries and birthdays lost in the COVID19 lockdown.

“It’s also a celebration of the Gold Coast and our community’s resilience … we’ve partnered with local business and suppliers to reboot 2020,” she said.

The Darling and most hotel restaurants are already open. M & G Cafe and Bar reopens today.

The gaming floor will operate when Stage 3 restrictions kick in from July 10.

Palm Beach’s Laura Knowles said the further reopening of Star Gold Coast was “music to her ears”.

“We have been at home for so long. I can’t wait to have a good girls night with lots of cocktails,” she said.

“I also can’t wait to recelebrate the four-year anniversary of my partner and I at the hotel.”

Summer RE-DO Packages start from $299, including discounted accommodation, dinner credit and complimentary breakfast. A glamour girls’ weekend in a penthouse at The Darling with in-room mixologist, hair and make-up artists and dinner at Nineteen at The Star or Kiyomi is $2399.
