IT’S HIP, HIP FOR TITANS FORWARD
TITANS forward Keegan Hipgrave knew something was up when his phone began exploding with notifications after beating the Brisbane Broncos on Saturday night.
He’d barely sat down in the sheds when a teammate pulled up a video that offered some clue as to why.
The clip, taken 50 seconds before fulltime, had captured an awkward attempt to wrestle Broncos colossus Payne Haas.
“A little hip thrust” is how Hipgrave described the viral video.
A pair of almighty pelvic thrusts into the Broncos star’s rear-end would be more accurate.
“I didn’t think it would go viral,” the Titan admitted.
“You can’t help but laugh – it’s never not going to be funny.
“It’s actually something we practice at training,” Hipgrave explained.
“If you can bump their hips with your hips it props them up a bit and gives you some space (to wrestle them).
“He’s such a big boy that one pump didn’t do it, he needed another.
“If it works it works, and we got him on the ground.”
The hilarious scene was the cherry on top for a dominant Titans performance that left the Broncos humiliated on home turf.
Hipgrave said years of being labelled the Broncos’ little brother club had added emotional energy to the Titans’ cause.
“Our whole focus that week was to collectively come out with energy,” the 23-year-old said.
“I knew from the very first set when we kept them in the red zone (inside 20) in the first set that we were in for a good time.
“We know that’s the winning formula going forward so we can’t just do it against the Broncos, we need it every week from now on.”
The Titans play the Cronulla Sharks at CBUS Super Stadium on Saturday at 3pm.
