DEPP CO-STAR TESTIFIES
ENGLISH actor Greg Ellis has defended his Pirates of the Caribbean co-star Johnny Depp after the Hollywood star was accused of domestic violence by his ex-wife Amber Heard.
As Depp’s libel trial against The Sun newspaper in London continues, Ellis said his experience working with Depp on three films was always “exemplary” and that the actor had lots of support in Hollywood.
It comes after Heard alleged she was subjected to a “three-day ordeal of assaults” while he filmed a Pirates of the Caribbean movie in Australia in 2015.
Depp is suing The Sun’s publisher, News Group Newspapers, and executive editor Dan Wootton after a 2018 article claimed the actor physically assaulted Heard, labelling him a “wife beater”.
Depp dismissed Heard’s assault claims as “fiction”. He has accused her of domestic violence and blamed her for causing his severed finger, a claim she denies.
Speaking generally, Star Trek actor Ellis slammed the #MeToo movement and its
“anti-men” sentiments. He recently launched a podcast called The Respondent to give a voice to the voiceless, and in one upcoming episode he discusses gender violence in Australia with controversial men’s rights activist Bettina Arndt.
“There is an unfair bias (against) men as it pertains to family law and family law courts,” Ellis said.
“I think we’re beginning to see people speak out and say ‘enough is enough’.
“One of the main reasons that I launched The Respondent
is because of what’s happening with cancel culture.
“There are people profiting from this game, this divorce family law system, and families are being eviscerated and children used as collateral damage.
“I wanted to speak out on behalf of people who didn’t have a voice and people who you think have a voice but have to remain silent because of family law. We hear so much about ‘smash the patriarchy’ and ‘all men are bad’ and ‘metoo’, and I come from a place of ‘men too’,” he said.
