FOG-ET ABOUT CHANGING HALVES

-

STOP the search. Titans great Mat Rogers says Gold Coast has finally found the halves combination the club has longed for since he and Scott Prince exited the club.

Rogers lauded halfback Jamal Fogarty’s performance against the Warriors that landed Gold Coast a fourpoint win at Robina on Friday.

Fogarty stood up when Ash Taylor left the field with a head injury.

It has convinced the Titans legend the club is in good hands with Fogarty and Taylor pulling the strings.

TITANS hooker Erin Clark says he is doing his first-grade apprenticeship on the run.

Clark returned to the starting team last Friday night for the Round 9 showdown with the Warriors at Cbus Super Stadium where the Titans came out 16-12 winners.

The 22-year-old grabbed hold of the No.9 jersey in Round 4, helping the Titans to the 28-23 win over the Tigers at Suncorp Stadium. But Mitch Rein got the jump on him for the Round 7 win over the Broncos, pushing Clark to the bench.

A knee injury to Rein against the Sharks in Round 8 saw Clark restored to the starting team but the pressure to stay there remains constant — with young gun Tanah Boyd and the experienced Nathan Peats recalled to the extended squad this week.

Clark admits with only one NRL appearance with the Warriors in 2017 under his belt before joining the Titans this year, he is doing his first-grade apprenticeship on the run.

But the internal pressure for spots is helping to speed up his education.

“For me, it is whatever (position) Justin and the coaches approve of,” he said.

“Wherever I am put, I will take it with both hands.

“Any footy player’s dream is to nail down a starting spot but wherever I am I will just take it with both hands and do what I can.

“I think I am still building confidence at this level. I am still learning and getting used to the speed of the game. There is a lot to learn.

“(The competition) is healthy for the club I think. It keeps all of us on our toes.

“I think Peatsy has been going well in the scrimmages. He is experienced, he is a good player. He is pushing the boys that are there now.

“That is good for the club and good for us as players.”
