Demolition begins on Mimi’s tower

- ANDREW POTTS

A GOLD Coast tower built by the sister of supermodel Elle Macpherson will be gone within months as the beachside site is transformed into a new high-rise.

Demolition work began on Monday on the nine-level Aspect on Burleigh tower, built just 17 years ago by Mimi Macpherson.

It will be gone before year’s end when construction will begin on the $77 million Natura development.

The luxury 17-level Natura project will be built by Brisbane developer Spyre Group, funded by Makro Finance.

It will feature 33 half-floor, three-bedroom apartments.

More than 80 per cent of its units have sold since the project launched in March in a $50 million buying spree, with just eight remaining on the market.

Condev Construction will demolish the current building in coming weeks, with construction of Natura scheduled to begin later this year.

Spyre Group director Andrew Malouf said the strong sales figures for the Natura tower apartments endorsed the vision.

“Our exciting vision for Natura will meet high demand for luxury residential offerings in what is undoubtedly one of Australia’s most highly sought-after beachfront suburbs,” Mr Malouf said.

Condev managing director Steve Marais said he was excited to be involved in the project from the demolition of the old tower to the completion of Natura, a project he describes as being of “magnificent

quality in the Gold Coast”.

“To be given the opportunity to work on Natura, from the project’s conception and feasibility, through to its construction, is very exciting and we look forward to seeing the project come to completion,” Mr Marais said.

About 70 per cent of those who bought into the 17-storey project off the plan were downsizers from the Gold Coast region.

The remaining buyers are understood to have been interstate investors. the heart of
