Titans aiming for storming rebound

- CHRIS HONNERY

THE Titans are looking to take a page out of Melbourne’s play book this week when they take on ladder leaders Penrith at Cbus Super Stadium.

The 15th-placed Titans held the Storm to a six-all scoreline for almost half an hour in last week’s clash, before the powerhouse club eventually stormed home.

Gold Coast’s defence was not up to standard against such a dominant side, making 44 missed tackles to Melbourne’s 15.

Titans forward Jai Arrow admitted the players were taught a lesson last week and looked to improve ahead of another tough game against the Panthers on Sunday.

“Melbourne taught us a lesson in how to play footy so we’re going to have to take a page out of their book,” Arrow said. “We’re going to have to focus on ourselves and our footy.

“We dropped too ball and turned over too much possession and good teams are going to capitalise (on that). It’s mostly holding the ball and defending our own line.”

The club has been buoyed by the return of skipper Kevin Proctor, who will play his first game in almost a month after injuring a bicep at training.

Proctor said he had been impressed by his teammates’ efforts against the Storm and believed they were the better team for the first quarter.

“(The loss) was disappointing because the boys started really well,” he said.

“They were on par – if not better – in the first 20 minutes but it was just our errors that kept hurting us.

“It’s starting to become a little bit of a trend to give the opposition so much easy ball.

“We’re our own worst enemy.”

The Panthers are one of the competitions best attacking side’s so far this season, scoring 240 points in 10 games.

Proctor admitted defence was key for the Titans this weekend if they were to have any hope of taking down the ladder leader.

“It’s going to be a big job this weekend,” he said.

“They’re the ladder leaders and they’re not at the top for no reason.”
