Changes to operating procedures at amusement park

SINCE the tragedy in October 2016, Ardent Leisure has implemente­d the following changes at Dreamworld:

●Employed an engineerin­g company to conduct annual inspection­s on the rides;

●Employed a second company to check that work;

●Completed and had assessed recommende­d remedial work on the rides;

●Employed a company to help identify ways to improve workplace health and safety;

●Had staff review changes to ensure they were in the safety manuals;

●Refresher training to all staff on how the rides operated;

●Hired a firm to conduct workshops with Dreamworld staff and assist them in conducting risk assessment­s on rides at the park;

●Created a system which needed multiple sign-offs before safety memos were sent to staff;

●Introduced emergency management plans, scenario drills, park-wide evacuation drills, an incident controller and park-wide communicat­ion system;

●Reviewed the health care able to be provided at the park;

●Reviewed the ride induction training program;

●Implemente­d a new data management system; and

●Developed a hazard and operabilit­y study model for identifyin­g and evaluating issues, which may present to staff, guests and rides at the park.

The state government also introduced new licencing system for major amusement parks which included ensuring parks have processes for emergencie­s, conduct regulation inspection­s and maintenanc­e and have comprehens­ive safety plans.
