THE Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale on the Gold Coast has come to a close with the dual Group 1 winner Viddora selling to Yulong Investments for $2.55 million.

Viddora, who was a $40,000 buy as a yearling, won the Moir and Winterbottom Stakes at Group 1 level, in addition to a $1 million Magic Millions Sprint on the Gold Coast during a glittering career that netted $2.8 million in prizemoney.

She was offered by Newgate Farm, in foal to Santa Ana Lane’s sire Lope de Vega.

Her sale brought the tally of seven-figure mares sold this week to six and was among 15 horses that fetched $500,000 or more during Book 1 of the

National Broodmare Sale. The sale grossed $54 million at an average price of just over $140,000.

Yulong bloodstock manager Luke Wilkinson said Viddora would likely be covered by new-season stallion Alabama Express at Yulong’s Victorian property this year.

He said Yulong valued her in the vicinity of “$2-3 million”.

It came after Yulong spent $4 million on day one for three mares, headed by ATC Oaks winner Unforgotten ($2.75 million), who is likely to be coupled with leading stallion I Am Invincible this spring.

The other big Yulong buys on the first day were Queensland Oaks placegetter Another Dollar ($700,000) and Evening Slippers ($550,000).

The national sale now switches to the weanling sale on Thursday and Friday.

The yearling component will be held on Monday and Tuesday, before the sale concludes with the racehorse section, also next Tuesday.
