PBC boys power to state league semis

- ANDREW DAWSON

PALM Beach Currumbin State High senior boys are through to the semi-finals of the Queensland Schools Premier League after outlasting a committed Murrumba college on Wednesday.

PBC won 4-0 in a warning to rival teams in the competition, with Eli Hughes, Young Fleeting, Enzo Edge and Kody Wright scoring at Murrumba State Secondary College in northern Brisbane.

The sheer class of PBC was evident from start to finish. It was a good campaign by PBC which has now blown out the COVID-19 lockdown cobwebs and can look forward to next month’s finals.

Earlier, the side flexed its muscles to record a 10-0 win over Aspley State High.

In a blink or you might miss it moment, PBC scored just seconds into the encounter and added a second goal in the minutes leading up to halftime.

PBC coach Luke Morley watched his side go on with the job in the second half. In all Travis McKenzie and Eli Hughes each scored two goals, while Matt Andrews, Archie Kassarate, Harry Stoddart, Koby Wright, Alex Fleeting and Lachlan Durrington snared one apiece.

The Palm Beach Currumbin senior girls side fell short of progressing after a 1-1 draw with Murrumba State Secondary College.

Having a superior goal difference, Murrumba could afford a draw but the team played for a win.

It was a game worthy of a grand final.

Home side Murrumba scored in the first half courtesy of Ali Moffat and at halftime led 1-0.

PBC predictably came back with Calannie Treloar slamming home an equaliser to set up a grandstand finish.

With the scores locked at 1-all, the defenders from both teams bunkered down.

Both teams created many half chances in this period as the class players rose to the surface.

It was all-out attack from both parties as the players worked themselves to the point of exhaustion.

In an earlier match, Kailey Lincoln scored three goals in the PBC girls’ 5-0 win over Aspley.

A highlight was a tremendous right-footed effort from PBC’s Savannah Sproule who launched the ball from a distance into the bottom right hand corner.

The PBC scorers were Lincoln (3), Sproule and Molly McLennan.
