SMOOTHING THE PATH

-

THE Gold Coast does bold better than anywhere.

Its economy’s DNA is founded on people taking risks and breaking the mould from the invention of the bikini to a latterday success story like HiSmile.

That mettle and moxy is being tested and going to be tested like never before as the COVID-19 disaster and its impacts unfold.

More than ever to come out of it and thrive again is going to take ideas, passion, the right opportunities seized at the right time and in the right places – and the support of authorities and the people with the ability to clip the red tape when required.

Many are stepping into the breach in this city.

The latest to do so are two of the major landholders in popular seaside village Nobby Beach’s retail and hospitality precinct.

Fruiterer George Manettas and developer Daniel Veitch have together put forward exciting new proposed projects for the area’s retail strip that on face value have enormous potential to enhance the magnetism of the area.

Their respective designs pay homage to the Gold Coast’s nostalgic designs of yesteryear from the 1950s and 1960s with bright, breezy and attractive plans.

Such ideas and commitment to press ahead with ambitious redevelopments can only be applauded at this time.

Every effort must be made by the powers that be to work with and ensure as smooth a passage as possible for entrepreneurs prepared to get such projects shovel ready.

The benefit in the short-term via jobs and activity is obvious – and in the longterm via the enhancements invaluable too.
