FAMILY MOURNS YOUNG DAD

- ALEXANDRIA UTTING AND KYLE WISNIEWSKI – Additional reporting Jessica Borten

THE 33-year-old man who died in a car crash at Pacific Pines at the weekend has been remembered as a hardworking, young father.

Jamie Field, 33, from Labrador, died and two other people were hospitalised after a car crashed into a tree on Pitcairn Way in Pacific Pines about 5pm on Sunday.

Police believe the car clipped a median strip first. Mr Field was a passenger.

Originally from Huskisson on the NSW south coast, Mr Field had moved to the Gold Coast and was working as an excavator.

Uncle Stephen “Pum” Parnell told the Bulletin his nephew was a keen fisherman and a hard worker.

He said Mr Field was the father to a baby girl.

“Loved his fishing, mucking around, but loved his family more,” Mr Parnell said.

“He had his ups and downs but he was really getting his life together. It’s a very sad loss to his mum, father, brothers and sister. As well to all of our families. He will be sadly missed.”

Amanda Phillis posted condolences to the Vincentia High class of 2000-2005 Facebook group.

“Another of our school mates has grown his wings. Jamie Field was killed in a car accident yesterday afternoon. Deepest condolences to all his mates and family. RIP mate.”

Other former schoolmates remembered the man as a “gentle giant”.

“Condolences to Jamie’s family. Have some good memories of TAFE with Jamie,” one wrote.

The driver of the car, a 24year-old man, was taken to hospital on Sunday in a serious but stable condition following the crash.

Another passenger, a 22year-old woman, was taken to hospital in a stable condition. Police are continuing to investigate the incident and have appealed for anyone who saw the car – a black Mazda 6 – before the crash to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
