FILM BUFFS IN THE PINK AS FESTIVAL RETURNS

- JODIE CALLCOTT

THE Gold Coast Film Festival is back in action with the launch of its special events program, after having to cancel last year due to the coronavirus.

The annual festival is this year offering pop-up cinema events throughout the Gold Coast including a secret rooftop screening of Clueless.

But it was a pink party celebrating 20 years since the release of Legally Blonde that Gold Coast Film Festival director Aimee Lindorff was most excited about.

She said movie lovers would be greeted by a sea of pink and could enjoy a Bend and Schnapps cocktail or a Warner’s Weiner hotdog before watching the cult classic.

“I think it’s going to be a really nice night out and the glamorous QT Gold Coast is one of the most sexiest sites to host a screening,” Ms Lindorff said.

The newly appointed director said it was challenging creating a COVIDsafe program but the team had worked closely with venues to provide safe and comfortable events.

“This year people can escape to a world of film and get a sense of relief during what has been a really challenging time.

“Whether you’re under the stars at a secret rooftop location, enjoying a pink cocktail poolside at QT Gold Coast while reliving Legally Blonde, or snuggled up watching family-favourites at Skypoint, there’s really something for everyone.”

The special events are part of a wider program of more than 100 films, panels, parties, and pop-up events across the Gold Coast and online from April 14–25.

The festival’s full program will be released on March 10.
