Trump’s ‘out for revenge’

He was fired by the American people but Don’s still king of conservatives

-

ORLANDO: Long-time Donald Trump adviser Roger Stone said he would support the former president if he decided to run for the White House in 2024 – but warned that anti-Trump forces would seek to “bury” his accomplishments.

“If he ran again I would certainly support him, but four years is a very long time,” he said. “What will happen now based on history is the Democrats and academia and the media will seek to bury his great accomplishments.”

The comments came ahead of Mr Trump’s speech on Sunday night at the Conservative Political Action Committee (CPAC) in Orlando, his first public appearance since leaving the White House.

Fox News reported Mr Trump would go between “warming up to the idea of a 2024 run, and walking right up to the line of announcing another campaign” – though he was not expected to make an actual announcement.

Mr Stone – who was pardoned by Mr Trump after he was convicted of lying to Congress, obstruction and witness tampering – is one of many high-profile figures to have descended on the conference, including Donald Trump Jr, Texas senator Ted Cruz, and Florida congressman Matt Gaetz.

Don Jr – who is tipped to possibly run for office in the future – blasted Joe Biden’s first 30 days as a disaster when he appeared at CPAC.

“The lies the media told you wouldn’t happen are all happening,” he said, before joking: “But, hey, at least they have a diverse cabinet, right?”

He went on to slam Kamala Harris, saying: “First and foremost we elected a woman, well that’s wonderful, is she competent?”

The 43-year-old then insisted the Republican and conservative movement was “a dying entity until Donald Trump came in”, a sentiment echoed by the former president’s legions of supporters. “I’m expecting fire and brimstone,” Gavin Wax, the president of the New York Young Republican Club, said of Mr Trump’s speech.

“He’s going to arrive on the scene and let it be known that he’s not going away, that he’s out for revenge, and has some big plans.”

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said: “Our focus is certainly not on what President Trump is saying.”
